music! music! like many others, music is for me more than just something to put on in the background. from my favorite bands, to seeing live music, to learning to play the guitar, music is one of the defining parts of me. while i am currently a consumer of music more than a producer, i would like to one day create something of my own. this page is a list of some of the genres i like, and the bands within them!
the top genre that i listen to would have to be metal. i mainly listen to death, black, and sludge, although doom, power, nu, and thrash all also find their way onto my spotify from time to time. my favorite bands right now are (not exhaustive) probably Acid Bath, Skinless, Darkthrone, Queensryche, Nailbomb, HIM, Impetigo, Type O Negative, Entombed, Korn, Mortician, Electric Wizard, Bethlehem, and Bathory. i am always interested in listening to new bands, and i try to have a wide range of bands i have listened too.
punk is also a genre i'm partial to. i personally prefer hardcore punk from the 80s and 90s, but i follow some more modern punk bands. my favorite hardcore bands are Dead Kennedys, Agent Orange, Reagan Youth, Choking Victim, Minor Threat, RKL, T.S.O.L, and Rudimentary Peni. punk as a genere can get a little repetitive, so i enjoy bands that do something more unique.
while it might be strange, goth is actually my number two genre. i don't dress gothic, (blond), but i have a deep respect for the genre and for the style. determining if a band is gothic or if they are just death inspired is hard, so if you disagree with any of these bands listed being categorized this way, i apologize. regardless, my favorite bands have got to be Bauhaus, The Cure, Christian Death, London After Midnight, Siouxsie and the Banshees, Sisters of Mercy, Scary Bitches, Voodoo Church, and 45 Grave.
while these are my big 3 genres, it doesn't mean that i don't like anything else. my 4th biggest genre is probably either alternative rock or industrial. i also enjoy pop and rock, and sometimes hip hop. my favorite bands and artists that i wouldn't categorize as metal, punk, or goth i normally listen to are Salem, Chemlab, KMFDM, Genitorturers, Rob Zombie, Abandoned Pools, Pink Floyd, David Bowie, Lana Del Rey, Ethel Cain, Ayesha Erotica, Nirvana, My Chemical Romance, Hole, Nine Inch Nails, Paramore, Crystal Castles... and Weird Al Yankovic.
one of my favorite things to do is to see local bands, whether they are punk, metal, or rock i especially like to mosh. i prefer to slam, but i've been trying to branch out and get more into things such as two-stepping, although i feel like i look very stupid when i do so. i'm part of my universities metal club, and i try to go to shows with them, although it's hard with my schedule. live shows are honestly one of my favorite activities to do, with the energy being unlike anything else.
